For mountain lovers like me and who love nature, then you need to travel here to this hidden treasure at Tanay, Rizal.
Treasure mountain is located at Sitio Maysawa Brgy. Cuyambay, Tanay, Rizal, and a 2-hour drive away from Manila. This place is fairly new and it gained popularity due to the appearance of a “sea of clouds” which is similar to Mt. Pulag in Benguet. For those who are not in favor of long hikes, well here’s good news for you: You can already reach the top of treasure mountain by car, which would be less hassle for travelers.
We went here last February and things didn’t go pretty well in the beginning. We were supposed to go camping in the mountain, however, we changed our plans at the last minute since it was already raining before we depart for Tanay. We hoped that the rains would subside upon arriving at the mountain, however, the weather just got worse. We arrived there at 9 PM and our travel time took 3 hours, which is a lot longer due to traffic. We also got lost along the way ( our Waze and Google Maps mysteriously didn’t work although we have a connection) so we just asked locals there for direction. Thankfully, there are still available rooms and we slept in a small cottage that looks like an attic.
The cottage has 2 common restrooms ( 1 for males and 1 for females) and although I don’t mind sharing it with visitors, I was disappointed since the restroom is not that clean and I even saw a cockroach inside the toilet bowl! Well, despite their restrooms, we enjoyed our dinner at the restaurant. I love their huge servings of Bulalo – highly recommended!
I thought that if it didn’t rain, maybe we’ll get to see many stars since the place is not yet that developed (although there is already an ongoing construction of a hotel), so it’s really kind of unfortunate for us. It was really cold that evening ( the temperature is around 18-20 degrees) and good thing that we brought large jackets.
We woke up early the next morning, and unfortunately, we didn’t get to see the famous sea of clouds due to the weather last night. Although the rain has stopped, it was kind of gloomy- however, I was in awe the moment I saw the view of the treasure mountain. It was really beautiful and it’s refreshing to see that there are no houses or buildings that will obstruct the view.
We also went to the camping site which also has a small pavilion, and there are many campers huddled inside. I kinda feel bad for them since it rained last night, and we were really lucky that we changed our plans the day before! Although I would like to experience camping there too- in good weather, of course.
We also wandered around the place, and wow, the compound is really huge! We saw obstacle courses designed for team-building activities and I heard that there is a swimming pool somewhere ( we didn’t go there during our trip).
Seeing the mountains makes me remember Baguio, minus the buildings. Despite the mishaps last night, the view of the treasure mountain makes up for it!

THINGS TO NOTE:
- Avoid going there during the rainy season, especially if you are planning to try camping. The place can get muddy and there’s less chance of seeing the sea of clouds.
- Don’t forget to bring jackets and blankets with you, since it’s usually cold there, especially in the evening.
- Bring rubber slippers/sandals
- Avoid going there during the weekends/holidays to avoid huge crowds.
Hoping again to see the beautiful view of treasure mountain, this time with a good weather!
