For mountain lovers like me and those who love nature, then you need to travel here to this hidden treasure at Tanay, Rizal.
Treasure mountain is located at Sitio Maysawa Brgy. Cuyambay, Tanay, Rizal, and a 2-hour drive away from Manila. This place is fairly new and it gained popularity due to the appearance of a “sea of clouds” which is similar to Mt. Pulag in Benguet. For those who are not in favor of long hikes, well here’s good news for you: You can already reach the top of treasure mountain by car, which would be less hassle for travelers.

We went here last February, and things didn’t go well initially. We were supposed to go camping in the mountains. However, we changed our plans at the last minute since it was already raining before we departed for Tanay. We hoped the rain would subside upon arriving at the mountain; however, the weather just worsened. We arrived there at 9 PM and our travel time took 3 hours, which is much longer due to traffic. We also got lost along the way ( our Waze and Google Maps mysteriously didn’t work, although we have a connection), so we just asked locals there for directions. Thankfully, rooms were still available, and we slept in a small cottage that looked like an attic.
The cottage has two common restrooms ( 1 for males and 1 for females), and although I don’t mind sharing them with visitors, I was disappointed that the restroom was not that clean. I even saw a cockroach inside the toilet bowl! Well, despite the restrooms, we enjoyed our dinner at the restaurant. I love their huge servings of Bulalo, and I highly recommend them!
I thought that if it didn’t rain, maybe we’d get to see many stars since the place is not yet that developed (although there is already an ongoing construction of a hotel), so it’s really unfortunate for us. It was freezing that evening ( the temperature was around 18-20 degrees), and it was a good thing that we brought oversized jackets.
We woke up early the following day, and unfortunately, we didn’t get to see the famous sea of clouds due to the weather last night. Although the rain had stopped, it was gloomy. However, I was in awe when I saw the view of the treasure mountain. It was beautiful and refreshing to see that no houses or buildings would obstruct the view.
We also went to the camping site with a small pavilion, and many campers huddled inside. I feel bad for them since it rained last night, and we were fortunate that we changed our plans the day before. However, I would also like to experience camping there in good weather.
We also wandered around the place, and wow, the compound is huge! We saw obstacle courses designed for team-building activities and I heard that there is a swimming pool somewhere ( we didn’t go there during our trip).
Seeing the mountains makes me remember Baguio, minus the buildings. Despite the mishaps last night, the view of Treasure Mountain makes up for it!

THINGS TO NOTE:
- Avoid going there during the rainy season, especially if you are planning to try camping. The place can get muddy, and there’s less chance of seeing the sea of clouds.
- Remember to bring jackets and blankets since it’s usually cold there, especially in the evening.
- Bring rubber slippers/sandals
- Avoid going there during the weekends/holidays to avoid huge crowds.
I hope to see the beautiful view of Treasure Mountain again, this time with good weather!
