I know that I’m quite too late to speak out about this, but it’s better than never. I’m more vocal about politics on twitter, and i think this is the first time that I’m speaking about this on my blog.
And it is my duty to do so. Because I’m a human.
I’m speaking about this because I’ve been devastated on what’s happening to my country and to the rest of the world. Right now, our freedom of speech is threatened by House Bill 6875 or the Anti-Terrorism Bill, which is already approved by the House of Representatives on 3rd and final reading. You might be wondering why this bill is alarming for every Filipino since it’s “anti-terrorist” but its not.
It’s target is to those who criticizes our government. And to top it off, our president wants it to be approved immediately. In the midst of the pandemic, where other things, such as mass testing and the plight of our commuters should be prioritized! Just from that reason, I know that our government’s purpose is nothing but to protect themselves instead of serving us – the Filipino people. And they really have no concern on what’s happening to my country-their country, since if they do really care, then they will listen to what the Filipino people would say. I also hate how our government inspire violence and silencing critics . Many supporters of our president ( which are called DDS) spread hate on those activists who continue to fight for human rights whereas we should thank them! If not for activists , then we would not experience the privilege we have right now! I just can’t understand how some of these blind followers are even brave to call themselves “Catholics” with bible verses in their bios in Facebook. How hypocrite can you get?
To make the matters worse, racism has again cost another life , which is not surprising, considering that it’s happening throughout the years. The only good side here is that it inspired everyone across the world to make a movement, from the streets to social media. It’s just disappointing that we lost a precious life before starting this movement, and I think that we should continue the fight even if justice has been served to George Floyd. Because as long as there is racism, more innocent lives would be at stake. All just because of skin color.
Remembering the movie “Parasite”, i realized that it’s not the people who is the problem – it’s our toxic system. As long as there is inequality in this world, the system will never change. As I type this, I hope that I can contribute to the change we all wanted – peace and freedom.
This is just the beginning. Let’s continue the fight – together.
