Explore Sumaging Cave

I’m proud to say that I already experienced exploring this popular cave back in 2008- and I was just 15 years old at that time. I was super nervous before entering—especially after spotting a tourist vomiting at the cave entrance. But once we entered inside, all my fears melted away as I marveled at the stunning stalactites and stalagmites.

The adventure didn’t stop there, though. The trek was indeed intense. Crawling through tiny openings, accidentally touching bat poop (yes, there are tons of bats inside), and navigating 2-3 hours of challenging terrain with deep ravines kept us on our toes. Thankfully, our amazing tour guide ensured we made it through safely. It was a wild, nerve-wracking, yet absolutely rewarding experience!

Before heading into the cave, make sure to stop by the Sagada Tourism Office to register and secure your tour guide.

If you’re up for an easier hike, the Ambangeg Trail—also called the “Artista Trail”—gets you to the summit in just 4-5 hours. Feeling daring? Tackle the Akiki Trail, aka the “Killer Trail,” which takes 10-11 hours to conquer. Note that you must present a medical certificate before climbing Mt. Pulag.

I finally crossed this off my bucket list back in 2017, and it was an absolutely unforgettable experience! We went all in with the advanced river rafting course, taking on 24 intense rapids, and even enjoyed free swimming. The entire adventure lasted 4 hours, and while it was sometimes nerve-wracking, every moment was 100% worth it.
