Mt. Tapyas Coron,Palawan: Hiking Experience

Last Updated on: 14th December 2024, 12:44 pm

After 10 years, I finally returned to one of my favorite places I’ve traveled to-Coron, Palawan! Of course, our travel won’t be complete without hiking Mt. Tapyas. The most famous viewpoint in Coron, Mt. Tapyas Coron, Palawan is the top choice for viewing the lush hills and gazing directly at the jaw-dropping Coron Island.

Getting there

From Busuanga Airport, take a shuttle to Coron Town Proper. Once you arrive, look for Malvar Street, where the entrance to the base of Mt. Tapyas is located. There are many tricycles in the town proper that can take you to Mt. Tapyas.

Our Hiking Experience

Our Hiking Experience was quite tiring, but it was worth it! From our hotel, we rode a tricycle, and after a 10-minute ride, we arrived at the foot of Mt. Tapyas. There’s no entrance fee here, but before you can enjoy the beautiful view, you need to climb the 721 steps, so I suggest climbing here early to avoid the high noon sun. Don’t forget to bring your own bottled water, sunscreen and sunhats.

We arrived there at 9 AM, so it was already quite hot. It was really tiring, to be honest (blame it on my sedentary lifestyle- I need to exercise every day! ) and while we were climbing, we saw foreigners with huge backpacks and they didn’t seem to get tired! I wonder how they do that haha. Our climb took more than an hour because we stopped many times to catch our breath, but if you are fit and used to hiking, then it will take around 20-30 minutes to reach the top. Despite the heat and the 721 steps, the view from the top was worth it.

There’s a huge cross on the top and a few benches where you can sit and admire the view of Coron Town and Bay. You can also see the famous CORON sign, which resembles the Hollywood sign in California. The cross actually lights up at night and looks over Coron Town.

Beyond the view deck and the cross, we saw the famous rolling hills, much like Batanes. It was still the same as when I traveled here 10 years ago- beautiful and picturesque.
