After watching The Polar Express during my childhood days, I’ve promised myself that I would see the northern lights in person someday. But where is the perfect place to view it? After reading countless of blogs and articles across the net, that’s when I decided that I will view it in the land of ice and fire- Iceland.
Why Iceland?
This country truly fascinates me- it’s a land of sharp contrasts. You wouldn’t expect to see tons of glaciers and huge volcanos all in one place- perhaps that’s why Iceland is called the land of ice and fire. Iceland also have many waterfalls, and as a waterfall chaser myself, this country is truly my dream destination.
Popular tourist spots in Iceland:
Skogafoss
This huge and spectacular waterfall surely belongs my travel bucketlist- and I’m sure many people are dying to go here! Skogafoss waterfalls is located in South Iceland, with a drop of 60 meters (200 feet). On sunny days, a beautiful rainbow can be seen in front of the waterfalls, that’s why this place is every photographers dream.
Askja
Aside from beautiful waterfalls, Iceland also have a beautiful lake which is located in Dyngjufjoll Mountains. Askja is a huge caldera and there is a geothermal lake which visitors can bathe in- and I hope I get to experience this! The milky blue waters is just so otherworldly to me- it’s like seeing into another world.
Ice caves
As if the waterfalls and lakes are not enough, Iceland have ice caves which have been carved by rivers of meltwater underneath the Vatnajokull Glacier. Like Askja, these ice caves are also otherworldly- just imagine being surrounded by blue ice formations, it’s like your very own version of the movie Frozen.
The Westfjords
Also known as northern Iceland, this place is said to be the best one to view the northern lights. These areas have longer hours of darkness, thus provide more chances to see the spectacular phenomenon. The best months to view the northern lights is from September to April, and there must be enough solar activity.
Honestly, I don’t know if this dream destination would become a reality for me because it is too expensive to go there- especially for a third-world passport holder myself. Their hostel dorm beds start around at 35$ per night and the budget hotel rooms starts around 75$ to 100$ dollars per night. Not to mention the plane flights- the cost from Manila to Reykjavik is $963 dollars roundtrip. It is really obvious that I need a lot of money to travel here, and it’s also obvious that it will take a long time for me to save a lot of money.
My friend, who is an avid traveler advised me to get a personal loan. I’ve already thought of it before, since saving a lot of money can really take a long time and by the time I would travel to Iceland, I might already have gray hair! Getting a personal loan sounds tempting, since you’re getting a large sum of money instantly- and I’ve been itching to travel out of the country instantly.
My friend recommended me to get a personal loan at Instant Pera- you can visit their official website at https://instantpera.com.ph . At Instant Pera, they provide quick easy loans not just for travel but also for school expenses, new gadgets, house improvements, etc. Well, I don’t easily decide without knowing the Pros and Cons of getting a personal loan- especially that I’ve never done this before.
The good thing about personal loan is that its multipurpose- you can use it on a holiday, school and especially when it comes to emergency situations. It has also no security requirements, easy to document and flexible. However, personal loan have higher processing fees and high interest rates. I’m also not sure if I’m eligible for getting a personal loan, because they are known to have strict eligibility criteria.
One thing for sure, Iceland will continue- and forever will be my dream destination. After searching for ways to travel to Iceland on a budget, I think travelling to Iceland would become a possibility for me.
How about you? Is Iceland is your dream destination too? Or are you the lucky one who have been to this place? Comment down below!
